I was wondering how RTS games actually got its inspiration from. When I looked at the gameplay, I can help but wonder how the developers come by this kind of wonderful game that looks so real to the extent that you can apply the real life warfare strategy right on the game. I think the history of warfare has a great impact on the RTS game creation.

Crusades, European Wars, etc. Anything with military warfare is probably the inspiration for RTS games

I sincerely understand where you are actually coming from. It's very correct that the strategy that are being applied to the games are tapped from the real life warfare strategy. For instance, Medieval II: Total War drew its gameplay from European medieval history.

Yes, this is why my heart goes with the RTS games because it makes me feel like I'm acting in real life. I also know a game that got inspiration from real life events, the famous Command & Conquer. It got its inspiration from the Cold War era.

Maybe it's all tied down to the early history of man's development and war in the olden days as everything was put into RTS games. It's today that the modern world warfare are being added in the game's development.
