The first Sins game landed on Epic Games with little fanfare, and the reviews that followed were brutal. Many players noted the lack of a final faction and said it was in desperate need of a final polish.
That said, the game managed to marry aspects of RTS and 4X. This blending of two distinct game genres allowed it to keep the adrenaline of real-time space conflicts while incorporating the strategic gameplay of empire development usually found in turn-based games.
One would think there would not be much left for the developers to work with for a sequel, and they would be wrong. Sins of a Solar Empire 2 is out now on Steam, and it is fantastic.
