Wouldn't it be cool if shield units were more than just that? I was thinking what might happen if two shield units from different factions were to collide. Would the collision of energies cause them to explode? What about a mobile unit encroaching on an obviously more powerful static emplacement? Maybe the mobile unit would be overwhelmed and it's shield pop but the emplacement's shield takes damage too?

You could use a platoon of mobile shields to take out a generator but run the risk of them then being destroyed by base defences.

Maybe the shields are powered by different kinds of energy?
This sounds interesting and could work. Having shields that are powered with different kinds of energy and maybe when they come in contact with say the enemy, has a different effect each time, I wonder if that would work?

Could different energies create powerful enough shields collide together to create strong energy fields that create a ripple effect and not only help defensively but also offensively? It could protect your troops and also deal damage to your opponent's troops and even damage the area around it.

Perhaps a rock-paper-scissors system? EDA shields counter Guard shields. Guard shields counter Chosen shields and Chosen shields counter EDA shields. Might work.

That will make 1v1 games unbalanced. EDA will have a huge advantage vs Guard etc.. Not a good idea.

As much as that does sound like a good idea, I can't help but feel it would be very unbalanced like that. I do like the idea though, it's a shame it wouldn't work if I am honest as it could have been fun to see something like that within the game.

I wonder if there are any other ways something like that could work though that would not make it unbalanced and unfair.

I generally dislike this idea, because it would make fight unpredictable. What if I want to have shield and not pop it? And how can you do that when there is entire faction that always uses shields? Imagine Chosen trying g to run under a shield to kill it, but die too fast because they lost tgeir shield. And it won't work if you fight same faction. Just a lot of unnecessary complication of the game.

I like the idea of shields popping shields, but random has a point here. Basically all chosen units will have shields, so this probably isnt a balanceable idea

Change the lore then ;)

Therein lies the benefit of a game still fluidly under development. Things can be changed. Perhaps the proximity of a personal shield to a physical body prevents this from happening.

But the problem is, personal shields look 100% the same as dome one, there is no reason to use different tech for it, shield being close to the body doesn't change the way it works. The only difference between them is scale. And it still doesn't change the problem that I might not want my shields to burst, My army can still rely on regular mobile dome shields.

I think you're missing my point. Nothing here is set in stone. Everything can be changed. We're talking about a science fiction setting so the 'rules' as we know them do not apply.
