I need help in understanding how to play RTS games

Many rookie RTS game players are struggling to understand the game’s strategy. They are lost in the game and do not even know how to manage resources, build armies, or execute battles. If you are such a person, you are in the right place. We will break it down for you in a very easy way. I am also having a similar issue, when I first played RTS games, I was having difficulties in managing all the responsibilities I needed to handle. Hopefully, with time and constant practice, I believe it will get better though.

Yeah, people struggling to learn the game should not worry. We've all been there. So, I will encourage people like that to think of RTS like a puzzle. Look at gathering resources; the resources are food, gold, etc. Then start to build structures, which are barracks, farms, etc., and also gather the train units (soldiers, sieges). But I will encourage them to focus on one task at a time.

I will encourage you to start with Age of Empires IV's Art of War tutorials. That's where you would get interactive tutorials, and it covers all the basics like resource gathering, unit control, and combat. After learning, I would encourage you to start playing against AI on small maps so that you can grasp the fundamental strategies.

There are so many gameplay playthrough on YouTube for different Real Time strategy games. If you're lacking in knowing how to play any particular RTS games, watching full playthrough of the game will teach you how to go about it.

With my experience, I can say that where I'm very certain most people who are new to playing real time strategy games struggle would be doing everything in real time. It can become very tough to keep up with.

Multi tasking is one of the essential skills you need while playing RTS games, you should plan for defenses and attacks at the same time, you should scout for resource and build the base at the same time. Since you are required to do a lot of things at the same time, RTS games are challenging to play.
