I would say the late 90s to early 2000s was the time to be alive for RTS gamers. There were quite a lot of fantastic games within a relatively short timeframe.
That said, I think the last 5 years have seen a resurgence.

What do you think?

I would go with 1995 to 1999 because that was when I would consider RTS games exploding to the world.

Great RTS games titles like Command & Conquer, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, Age of Empires, StarCraft and Total Annihilation brought so much exposure to the game.

Right choice you made. Command and Conquer was released in a period when there was a need for players to enjoy quality rts games. It was an era when a lot of players ended up getting more interested in playing these types of games.

I believe between the late 1990s and the 2000s was the golden era of RTS games. Most of the popular game franchise started in this time period Including Age of Empires and StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Command & Conquer.

The RTS games era when games like Command & Conquer and Age of Empires burst right on stage would be my golden era in the game's history. StarCraft days is very good too, I wouldn't write that off.
