What sets Command and Conquer apart?

There are a lot of rts games in the world. Many of them are there for a reason. When it comes to Command and Conquer, I believe that one of the things that sets it apart from the rest of the game is the feeling that you are a serious commander. This is how I feel each time that I play this game. What else do you think makes this game to be very good?

I think Command and Conquer will always be known as the first game to introduce competitive multiplayer to RTS games.
