What is the best way to play 2v2 with a newbie?

So there's this friend that is new to RTS games but wants to learn fast. I'm not that much of a tutor myself so I suggest going 2v2 in Age of Mythology so I can be showing him how it's done along the way.
Is it best to play against AI or matches against others? I think that AI is too predictable.
What do you suggest?

For a newbie, AI is the best way to go. You want to build confidence not crucify. Use Discord so that you can coordinate better.

It depends on the RTS games which you're playing. There are many of them in which the AI is very smart. You won't find it easy making it past them.

I'll recommend Total War: Shogun 2 and Total War: Three Kingdoms. Their AI offers a human-like and unpredictable gameplay experience which makes it very challenging to play against them.

I would say that choosing the right RTS game for a newbie is the first thing you need to get right otherwise everything is going to feel like a big pressure for the player which will eventually make him or her quit playing. The game have to be beginner-friendly game and with a slow-paced map. It doesn't matter if the AI is predictable or not, the player is at the stage of learning.
