I fell in love with the RTS games and my favorite is Age of Empires. But I’m worried about whether playing these games will teach us about real-life war strategies? I’m puzzled if the generals and commanders use similar plans in real life.

What can RTS games teach us about real war strategy?

RTS teaches about the act of planning and timing. You might have the right plan, but if carried out at the wrong timing, it might lead to a lot of losses.

Absolutely! The RTS games teach us some important skills like managing resources, and adapting which are applicable in real life warfare. This means that the players can learn how to use terrain to their advantage, and make smart unit choices. and outmaneuver opponents too. These are the same in real life warfare.

The RTS games teach steam morale. We can see this in players balancing the short-term goals with the long-term plans. There is huge realism in games like Total War. It's somehow similar to real warfare.

One thing which you can learn from playing Real Time strategy games that can also be applied in real war strategy in real life would be how long-term planning, resources management and allocation would play a vital role for your success. Also, it will teach you how to be very good in multitasking.

The real war and the game are totally different thing. Games allow us to simulate war and even become a part of the war, but as we play we are always conscious that everything is fictional. The strategies that we use in the game are far from the reality.

I don't quite agree with completely. Even though what we are doing when playing RTS games is fictional because it's carried in video games, it doesn't mean the same thing are not done in real life war battle. The games makes it possible for us to relive what was experienced during those waring time.

Do you mean to say those we are good with RTS games (based on wars) make them good soldiers in the battle field because they have learned how to fight?

There some RTS games that could teach real war strategies. A typical example is Age of Empires. It's a very educational game to a certain extent because it teaches strategies and tactics. So, playing gives you enough knowledge on allocations of resources and how to make decisions.
