Who has attempted to do that? Who has simply built a computer of any sort? Anyway, how challenging was the endeavor? What did it cost? How long did it take? What materials were used?

O.K., assuming you haven't done this thing, have you thought about it? What's your guesses on the questions in the first paragraph?

I did the first one for about 800€ and my current one for 450€.
It's not really challenging it's like Lego but your a bit more worried because of the expense
2-3h max.
Just a screwdriver

I've built some computers, for gaming and server use, for myself and for friends, ranging from 600 to 2000€.
It's not that hard, but you need to be careful, especially when handling the smallest pieces like the CPU.
I take around 1/1.5 hour for building, lose 30 minutes when I push the start button and nothing happens because I forgot to plug the PSU, and then 30 minutes for system install.
Some space, a long screwdriver and a torch is all I need.

I haven't tried to do some watercooling yet ! But why not one day.

A rasbery py count for a server? x)

I remember when I was younger, my dad used to have a business on the side of his work that would make him a little extra income to support the family and it was building PCs for those who were interested and wanted a PC building.

I always used to watch him build the PCs that were ordered and I took a lot in but I have never attempted to build my own PC.

I would love to build a gaming PC as I know I could probably build one myself cheaper than pre-built. Hopefully one day.

I don't know your price but one or two years ago the price where so meat up that prebuild computer where cheaper X) It should have died down now tho.
Don't hesitate to laugh you sef in the adventure. You get a feeling of pride when you're done ;)

I was not aware of that. I had always known that in most cases it was cheaper to build your own. I guess the pandemic and the issues of low stock supplies of certain things, could be what caused the price to increase when it came to building your own.
