My biggest wish for Sanctuary is that there are real differences in the factions.

Consider, as an example, C&C: Generals. Each faction; whilst having similar units was also different. The Chinese faction relied upon hordes, the GLA on stealth and sneak attacks and the US on tech. Each was played in a different way without straying too far from core mechanics.

Compare that to Supreme Commander. Each faction was just too similar. There was very little difference between them. Sure, Cybran didn't have mobile shield generators and the UEF had a larger air transport. But by and large I don't think it mattered which faction you played with. The differences were just too small.

I know that in Sanctuary Shattered Sun each faction has a theme. Guard - swarm. EDA - armour. Chosen - shields. But will the be enough differences to make each faction different and play differently? Importantly, will this also be balanced? What are the challenges of introducing asymmetry and making sure the game is as balanced as possible?

Aion still feel different to me in the T1 early T2 and the late T3 navy

I personally love asymmetry from the gameplay perspective. it’s one of my favorite challenges and areas of exploration. Merchants Cove took me about 4 years but it was worth it. I certainly enjoy the large variety of symmetrical games too though.
